What income do they have, and is it stable?

Review each source and the sponsor’s work or income history. Then test combined parent income against the university’s configured annual minimum.

Statement analysis findings are evidence-review signals. They can require clarification without, by themselves, establishing document tampering or fraud.

Can the family sustain the funding commitment?

Apply the selected policy’s loan rule when a loan is present. Use the formula-document monthly surplus method when there is no loan.

Show the calculation and the no-loan rule +
Loan case: annual repayment commitment = monthly EMI × 12; stressed commitment = annual repayment commitment × 2. Compare that amount with the relevant verified annual sponsor income. This is shown as the selected admissions-policy test, not as a formula published in Home Affairs student-visa guidance. Home Affairs guidance instead requires evidence of loan terms, genuine access/disbursement and capacity to meet ongoing costs.

No-loan case: use the field-mapping formula: verified monthly income minus monthly expense = monthly surplus; surplus ratio = surplus ÷ verified monthly income. Assess income continuity, volatility and concentration, and treat compromised statement integrity or unreliable income as a hard concern. Keep the same shared income window wherever the metric appears.

The university’s annual parent-income threshold remains a separate requirement. A passing loan test does not replace it.

Assessment conclusion

Why is the financial risk High?

The decision reflects the combination of funding policy and unresolved evidence findings.

High risk
Policy exception

Parent funding share

The parents’ share is below the selected policy minimum, despite the overall funds total being sufficient.

Officer recommendationRequest source evidence for the flagged deposits and reconciliation items, plus a revised funding plan with sufficient eligible parent contribution. Record the outcome of those checks before closing the financial assessment.
If the financial risk is Low, what should the recommendation say? +
Explain which policy and evidence checks passed, state that no material financial concern remains, and recommend proceeding to the overall Genuine Student assessment. This is a recommendation to continue the assessment, not an automatic admission or visa decision.
Metric guideOpen definitions and decision rules without repeating this case’s figures.+
Sponsor eligibility +
Check identity, relationship evidence and the sponsor categories allowed under the selected university policy. If a sponsor fails this gate, do not continue that sponsor’s income or funds assessment.
Annual income threshold +
Compare verified annual income from the policy-defined sponsor group with the university’s configured minimum. Keep this threshold test separate from income continuity, loan servicing and available funds.
Occupation and income stability +
Use occupation, employment duration, income source and recurring credited income to judge continuity and plausibility. Support each source with policy-accepted documents.
Sponsor contribution share and eligible funds +
Per sponsor: maintained eligible savings + accepted FD/NSIC + eligible disbursed loan + other accepted funds, after ownership, source and exclusion checks. Contribution share = sponsor’s eligible contribution ÷ total sponsor funds. Do not cap eligible funds at the first-year requirement.
Funding coverage +
Required first-year funds = first-year tuition fee + annual living expenses + travel once a year. Coverage ratio = combined eligible funds ÷ required first-year funds; coverage percentage = coverage ratio × 100. Surplus = combined eligible funds − required first-year funds. Show these together in the funding-plan step. A coverage ratio of at least 1.00× means the first-year amount is covered; sponsor-policy and evidence checks must also pass.
Income sustainability when a loan is present +
Under this selected admissions-policy rule, annualise the repayment (monthly EMI × 12), apply the 2× stress factor and compare the resulting annual commitment with relevant verified annual sponsor income. Do not label this exact multiplier as a Home Affairs formula unless the governing policy expressly says so.
Income sustainability when there is no loan +
Use the field-mapping document’s method: monthly surplus = verified monthly income − monthly expense; surplus ratio = monthly surplus ÷ verified monthly income. Also assess continuity, volatility, inflow concentration and statement integrity. Use one defined assessment window across all screens.
Evidence and statement checks +
Keep document alteration, ledger reconciliation, source-of-funds review and transaction behaviour as separate findings. A ledger mismatch or unusual movement is not, by itself, proof of document tampering or fraud.
Overall financial risk and recommendation +
Explain which checks drove the rating, distinguish passed tests from unresolved concerns and link each concern to its evidence. A Low result should explain why the financial checks are satisfactory and recommend continuing to the overall GS assessment.
